Sharing Files With Someone Who’s Not a Kinnect User

Kinnect makes it easy to share specific files with someone who doesn’t already have a Kinnect account—like an attorney, accountant, or family member—without giving them access to the rest of your data.

Step 1: Select the files you want to share

Start by going into My Data and selecting one or more files (templates or attachments) that you want to share.

Once selected, click Share from the toolbar.

Step 2: Invite the person as a view-only user

If the person you’re sharing with isn’t already in Kinnect:

  1. Choose Invite New User

  2. Enter their name and email address

  3. Set their user type to View Only

  4. Send the invite

This ensures they can see only what you explicitly share, nothing more.

What the external user will see

When the recipient accepts the invitation:

  • They’ll create a free Kinnect account

  • Their account will only show the files you’ve shared with them, and nothing else.

  • Their ability to edit the items you've shared is determined by the initial sharing settings you input, and they can be managed/changed at any time.

A quick note on control

You stay in full control at all times. You can revoke access, share additional files, or remove the user entirely whenever you want.
